Why is Bluehost so popular among hosting providers? Is it really worth it?

Well, to begin with, it is the most popular and trusted among the top 5 web hosting providers in the industry. It hosts over 2 million websites across the web and has been officially recommended by wordpress.org since 2005. Here are some key facts about Bluehost, which I culled from dozens of Bluehost reviews:

  1. Bluehost is one of the top 3 hosting companies that WordPress officially recommends (the other two are Dreamhost and SiteGround)
  2. 24/7 live chat and phone support are mentioned as one of the top benefits in almost 80% of Bluehost reviews
  3. Around 60% of all websites on the web are powered by WordPress, and Bluehost has built its features into place to make better use of CMS.
  4. From initial sign up to launching a live blog, it is widely cited as the fastest and easiest way in the industry
  5. Their pricing is usually some of the lowest in the hosting industry, especially for the features and ease of use (starting at $2.95/mo)
  6. Mixed reviews about their website loading times, although it varies in different regions of the world
  7. The excellent uptime of 99.99% is consistently reported by Bluehost users which is better than others.

Now that we’ve laid the foundation for the consensus we’ve gathered from the many Bluehost reviews on the web, it’s time to present my thoughts. So, this is what I think of Bluehost India Reviews:

Bluehost Web Hosting Reviews #1: Bluehost gives you the most value for what you pay for hosting.”- LearnBlogSkills

When you start building your first blog or website, the first thing you want is someone to help you with the process. As you move on, you feel helpless and everything seems out of your reach. And so comes the need for online technical support in which Bluehost ranks #1 as compared to other hosting services. I am not saying this on perusal of dozens of Bluehost India reviews above, but because I have tested their services through online chatting while starting my blog and can undoubtedly say that their technical support team is extremely helpful.

You can check the user experience of most of their clients who have consistently cited their customer service as a highly positive aspect of choosing to host a blog and that has been certainly my personal experience too. However, not all of your users will have the same experience, especially if millions of people are using the same product. So in some cases from the list here, you can see that others have very little experience with the company’s support team.

Of course, there are a lot of factors involved in influencing site loading times and the personal support experience and so, while most reviews rate these factors as their top priority, not everyone shares the same sentiment.

Here are a few more advantages and disadvantages that I wanted to highlight in my own Bluehost Idea reviews:

  1. Bluehost is very well optimized with tools, settings and features to run a WordPress blog or website.
  2. They offer a free domain for the first year, free CDN, free SSL certificate and high default security standards for all accounts
  3. Unlimited SSD storage, bandwidth and disk space come with all accounts other than ‘Basic’ which will remove a lot of burdens as your business grows.
  4. Bluehost performance tests show that they are generally faster than most other companies in the hosting world, but geographic location plays a role.
  5. Their 24/7 live chat and phone support team are always ready to respond, but if the problem is too technical it may take a little longer than expected.
  6. The statistical fact that Bluehost powers over 2 million websites and have been in business for 17 years (since 2003) gives me confidence in their long-term outlook.
  7. Their sign up process is fast and convenient but offers some non-essential upsells such as SEO tools, email services, and other additional security add-ons that can be found in free WordPress plugins.
  8. While new customer pricing starting at $2.95/month* is very competitive, renewal rates are often 2x the introductory price which are slightly higher than others.

Which pricing plan is best for starting a blog?

Personally, I recommend choosing “Choice Plus 36 Months Price – $7.45/month” if you want to lock in the lowest possible price you’re willing to pay for hosting. That’s what I use. And, if you choose the 1-year plan, you’ll pay more than you paid the first time around. But, if you opt for the 36-month plan, then your value will be locked in for 3 years at this rate. In my detailed guide, ‘How to start a blog‘, I have gone through all the details on how you can get your own WordPress blog with Bluehost.

Choosing the right package extras

Bluehost usually has a lot of premium add-ons that you may not need right away, so be sure to uncheck them before paying. I recommend keeping the domain privacy protections extra, but you can skip the rest if you choose a plan other than “Choice Plus.” In the “Choice Plus” plan, your domain privacy protection will be listed as “Free”, as you can see in the screenshot above. But, if you’re choosing a Basic or Plus plan, be sure to check the box to add domain privacy protection to your order at around $1/month.

My personal verdict on Bluehost web hosting review: 👍

I firmly believe that Bluehost gives you the most value for what you pay for hosting and is the best hosting company for new bloggers and website owners to start with. Of course, we see a different picture when renovating (usually 2X the first price), but I don’t think it’s worth considering if you’re serious in your business and know what you’re doing. Their simple WordPress-optimized features and high level of support from their technical support team make this the real value you pay for hosting.

However, it is not the cheapest option, and I think for the same money you will get Better performing providers can be found that come with advanced options (such as backup or staging areas.

  4. Easy Integration Between Bluehost and Other Apps and Services
  5. That site migration isn’t free – in fact, it costs $149.99 to move five websites and 20 email accounts

Plus, they offer strong security support, money-back guarantees, and user-friendly apps for one of the lowest rates ($2.75/month) in the industry. However, they are not perfect. Renewal rates will increase after the initial pricing expires. Plus, they charge extra for site migration, which other hosts offer for free. In its review of Bluehost, WebsiteRating highlights:

  3. Provision of Free SSL Certificate
  4. Lack of free website migration (if you are moving a website elsewhere)
  5. The Fact That Daily Website Backups Aren’t Free

Verdict in their Bluehost web hosting review: 👍

“It is a good web hosting option for personal and small business websites and blogs (i.e. to build your first website) because Bluehost is cheap (very cheap), reliable, secure and comes with a free domain name. However, for high traffic websites, this (or any other shared host for that matter) is not a very good choice. The other major downside is that automatic backups and site migrations only come as paid upgrades

  4. Easy set-up process, especially if you are new to website building
  5. Slow and frustrating live chat support system, with representatives providing incorrect or unhelpful information

Verdict in their Bluehost web hosting review: 👎

“While Bluehost provides a decent service in terms of infrastructure and ease of use, my conversations with support were extremely disappointing. Given that the prices are nothing special, my recommendation is to consider other hosts.

  5. Lack of ticket-based support option: You have to use a phone or live chat

Verdict in their Bluehost web hosting review: 👍

“I recommend Bluehost to most people who are new to hosting. Bluehost goes out of its way to be easy to use without sacrificing too much user control, although something is inherently lost. But at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. Bluehost lacks customer service, and lousy uptime and their speeds leave a lot to be desired.

Ryan highlights the superiority of Bluehost’s technical support team in his Bluehost web hosting review:

  1. Bluehost is very well-optimized with tools, settings and features to run a WordPress blog
  2. They offer free SSL certificates and have high default security standards for all accounts
  3. Unlimited bandwidth and disk space come with all accounts too (which is a major plus)
  4. Bluehost performance tests show that they’re usually faster than most hosting companies, but not the fastest
  5. While new customer pricing is very competitive (starting at $2.95/mo), the renewal rate is often 2x the introductory pricing

Verdict in their Bluehost web hosting review: 👍

I strongly believe Bluehost is hands down the best hosting company for brand new bloggers and website owners to get started with. However, you can do without most of the add-on upsells they recommend during the “Package Extras” section of their checkout page.

Bluehost Web Hosting Review #27: “I give Bluehost 3/5 stars. Reliable, secure hosting, but some problems with speed and support.” – StartBloggingOnline

This review of Start Blogging Online highlights:

  1. Various hosting options are available from Bluehost, including shared hosting and WordPress hosting
  2. Reliable and robust security and anti-spam measures that automatically include
  3. Wide range of options at very competitive prices (at least initially)
  4. The fact that Bluehost was slower than the other hosting services they tested
  5. High cost of additions, including site migration

Verdict in their Bluehost web hosting review: Somehow like 👎

“Overall, I am giving Bluehost 3/5 stars. Here’s a reliable, secure web hosting platform – but sometimes that platform gets obscured by issues with speed, pricing, and support.

Bluehost Web Hosting Review #28: “Bluehost is a reliable web hosting service that gives you the best value for your money.” – Neil Patel

In his Bluehost review, Neil Patel highlights this:

  1. Bluehost enables you to have a website up and running in minutes.
  2. It’s easy to use, even for first-timers, and it’s a good price.
  3. This is a nice advantage that sets it apart from other budget options.
  4. It gives you the best value for your money without seeing how it measures up to other providers in the market.

Verdict in their Bluehost web hosting review: 👍

“Bluehost is ideal for beginners who are starting a website for the first or second time. Assuming you are a blogger just starting out in your niche, Bluehost enables you to get an easy start without sweating all the technical details. With its customer support features and easy to navigate cPanel, Bluehost makes sure to get your site running with plenty of uptime.”

Final verdict on Bluehost Web Hosting Review:

As per my own personal experience, I firmly believe that Bluehost is the best hosting option for brand new bloggers or website owners to get started. Their customer service and technical support team are incredibly helpful in getting your site live on the internet. While most Bluehost reviews I’ve seen are at least widely positive, it’s also important to know that some customers aren’t 100% happy with their experience (if they compare it with other hosting companies like DreamHost, SiteGround, or HostGator).

However, all hosting companies have their share of less-satisfied customers after serving hundreds of thousands of people. Still, most bloggers who use Bluehost early in their blogging journey love it and if you’re looking for a host for your blog today, Bluehost should be your first choice. As they are well established, well respected and most trusted in comparison to many of the biggest names in the hosting world, this reassures me about their long term outlook.
